Fedora 15 via Ubuntu 11.04

I just installed Fedora 15 in my laptop. Unfortunately there was no option to do an online upgrade from Fedora 14 and so had to download the ISO image. In the meantime, I did try the Ubuntu 11.04 in my other laptop and I really got surprised by this look of Ubuntu's desktop :

The only problem I had with this desktop is the absence of any kind of aids that will tell me what to do to locate a particular app that I have installed and it seems that the only way to do it is to memorize the names of apps and then use the search function every time.
Now, the major problem with this distro is that its not stable at all, even though Ubuntu claims it to be a stable release. I experienced frequent crashes. One particular scenario is that when you lock the desktop using the Ctrl-Alt-L, there is no guarantee that it can be unlocked later. Almost 60% of the time, when I try to unlock, the login prompt fails to appear and I get stuck with a blank screen. The only way out of the mess then is to pull the plug and start over again. This is just one of the problems with this release. On checking in the WWW among other users of Ubuntu, I was told that nobody likes the new release and that almost everybody is reverting back to the previous version.

By this time, I got done downloading the ISO image for Fedora and the end result is as follows :
Fedora 15 desktop
To be honest, I like the new look in Fedora. Even though its similar to the look of Ubuntu(GNOME 3), the developers of Fedora have taken care to ensure that users don't end up being stuck at what to do. The menu still exists but in a different way. The change is just in the presentation 🙂
