Well, its been a while and I finally got my hands on the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet a couple of weeks ago. Its a nice tablet running Honeycomb and comes with quite a handful of preloaded apps. The best part of this tablet is the availability of N-trig Duo sense technology, which enabled users to use a stylus along with their fingers. So, basically, it has a combination of the Active Digitizer and Capacitive touch screen.
The preloaded notes app called MyScript Notes Mobile is an incomplete app which needs considerable amount of work. The company who made this app states that the product is currently available as OEM only. However, the app looks great with by far the best handwriting recognition that I have seen so far. Unless your handwriting is really unreadable, you shouldn’t have any problem with the app. The performance of the app however is disappointing. This is because, I see that as the amount of notes stored increases, the response time of the app decreases. Its crashes quite often when I use the handwriting recognition(what the app calls Digitizer). sometimes, I find that the stylus is no longer being recognized by the app until I kill the app and re-launch it or reboot the tablet. In other words, I’m still looking for a better note taking app and so far the Writepad Stylus seems to be the best one I’ve encountered so far. It doesn’t support handwriting recognition the same way as myScript Notes does but still we can write and the app stores each page as PNG files.
Anyways, the Thinkpad Tablet is great. The corning Gorilla glass is as they say scratch proof. However, the downside to having the glass is that while using the stylus, sometimes I find that the stylus slips without getting recognized. Having a dry cloth can be very useful as wiping the screen solves the problem.
